Harry C (Year 11) – one of SA’s 3 recipients of the ABCN Accelerate Scholarship – recently travelled to Sydney to participate in a nationwide summit conference with all 39 fellow scholarship recipients.
The summit program provided time for Harry to develop his relationship with his mentor, Simon Hardman (from Microsoft SA). Harry did lots of walking, taking in the sights around Sydney’s CBD and Sydney Harbour; he got to visit the Opera House, NSW Art Gallery and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Harry worked on his ‘Find Your Purpose’ program activities and he got to meet and network with professional staff from a range of large companies. A highlight for Harry was also getting to meet former politician and NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian.
A celebration formal event was held on the top floor of the KPMG building which was very fancy and Harry said the views over Sydney were spectacular!
A focus of the summit was to have students work with their mentors to begin thinking about and discussing career directions and the opportunities that exist beyond school. Harry found the trip very worthwhile and lots of fun – his smiles say it all!
